Galería JM presents, in collaboration with Galería Fernando Pradilla, Madrid, the complete series Pleghmone of the artist IXONE SÁDABA (Bilbao, 1977), which she began to develop in 2004 and a part of which we already had the opportunity to see in Bilbao and Valladolid.
The work consists of nine digital photographs in panorama format, realised in 3 different sceneries and in each of them we can see three gaunt actions, creating three different photographs at each location. The construction of theatrical settings, the actions happening and the evolvement of the artist herself draw a world of cruelties and fears, of pleasures and violence, as well as of mutated beings shocking the conscience.

Pleghmone, which means “the house in flames”, is a symbolic term representing the fever preceding death; following the art commissioner Itxaso Mendiluze the work is: “a series of photographs completing a history which achieves sense by the stories told through them and meaning in their complexity of fiction, become real through sacrifice, celebration and communion”.
The young artist, in a need of searching, came to the point of questioning the established arts disciplines, and developed a work which in many aspects can be seen as hybrid or kind of a mixture, using the body as medium of expression to question and investigate sensitive perceptions, behaviours, attitudes, human conditioning factors and existential conflicts through the body language or what is considered as actions or performance.

The short but intense trajectory of IXONE SÁDABA concentrates on the art of action and, during the last years, her work could be seen in different individual projects presented in Amsterdam, Bilbao or Madrid. She participated with the Galería Fernando Pradilla in the fairs of Brussels, Paris Photo, Buenos Aires, Mexico D.F., Chicago or Bogota, among others. She took part in the much talked-about expositions “The Royal Trip- El viaje Real”, commissioned by Harald Szeemann in Valladolid, and “Antirealismos: Spanish Photomedia Now” in Brisbane and Sidney, Australia. She developed numerous installations and performances, among them in Kursaal, San Sebastian, Fundación Botí, Cordoba or Fundación Serralves, Portugal. She also participated in numerous courses and seminars and currently has been awarded a scholarship of the ICP in New York.
