Irene Andessner “I. A. Mozart (?)”. Austria, Germany and Russia

2006

This project, initiated by the “Mozart 2006 Salzburg” organisation, has been presented in diverse galleries and art centers the present year, when the universal genius’ 250th anniversary is commemorated. The question mark in parentheses in the title of the project indicates uncertainties regarding the date or the identity of the person portrayed or the painter of a historical portrait of an artist. This is true for many so-called Mozart portraits, including Joseph Grassi’s “Portrait of a man (Mozart?)” painted in 1875 which Andessner has imitated. In this (self) portrait performance piece, she reflects on the changing image that the society has made of Mozart (and of artists in general) over the times. The idea of identifying the portrayer with the portrayed is expressed by the initials (I. A.) in the title of Andessner’s work which read like the question “I am Mozart?”.

Ixone Sádaba opens the new program “Productions” at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía

10 nov - 4 dic 2006

It is about a specific project produced for the MNCARS and made in New York, scenes from the outskirts, into the border of the not-place that connect with the psychic and creative state of the artist. “The forest in flames” disintegrates the idea of unique and final photo, leaving the photo opened as a mosaic whose fragments expand the landscape and recompose a myriad of fiction.

“The Sock Strategy”, Villasís Hall, Cultural Center El Monte, Seville

4 oct – 30 nov 2006

The aim of Iván de la Torre is to show the particular vision of the young Andalusian artists through his works, in particular those ones by the artists born from 1969 till 1979. The result offers the image of a powerful generation made of artists that have an international presence or a notable projection, Aaron Lloyd, Jose Carlos Casado and Carlos Aires, among others. By returning the reality like a sock to transform the new to the old thing and viceversa, this exhibition tries to get answers. Is there a young, different and qualified art in Andalusia? What are the common positions in the latest Andalusian art? And which languages artists are working with?

Carlos Airs “EuroArt”, Vienna - Censured

Ene 2006

Even though the purpose of the advertising is to get the pedestrians attention to an event, Carlos Aires’ photos have finally been censured because of the conservatory political sectors’ protests. The artist proposal to commemorate the Austrian presidency of European Union 2006 represented a pornographic scene by actors only dressed with masks of political leaders like Jacques Chirac, George Bush or Queen Elisabeth II.
